Kunst der Flucht. Kunst der Fuge.

Im Mittelpunkt des Artist Talks stehen die jungen Künstlerinnen Margo Sarkisova, Lera Elur und Maryam Farhang, die, unterschiedlicher Herkunft, sich hier in Graz in ihrer künstlerischen Beschäftigung mit Druckgrafik einen neuen Platz erschaffen. Flucht ist für die Künstlerinnen kein abstraktes Thema, sondern eine existentielle Erfahrung, die in ihren Arbeiten unterschiedlich interpretiert wird. 


LERA ELUR 
Lera Elur is an artist from Mariupol, Ukraine, currently she lives and works in Graz, Austria. In her art practice she has transitioned from digital illustration and animation to graphics and printing techniques. She likes to work with techniques such as linocut and woodcut because she is enjoying the feeling of the physical material and wants to continue the tradition of printmaking. In her works she cares about sense of instability and changeability of the world, impermanence of life, human behavior and relationship with nature.


MARYAM FARHANG 
„In 2019 I was invited to Austria to pursue my artistic endeavors and gain new experiences. Many cultural, artistic, social, and religious differences between the two countries have become tangible for me.
On the other hand, this experience has made me keenly aware of the feelings common to human beings everywhere — like fear, love, hate, friendship, intimacy, loneliness, need, and desire. But halfway across the world, I am still faced with questions such as “Why war?” “Why violence?” “Why the border?” “Why the homeland?” “Why does the region I live in direct enormous resources towards inciting war, producing weapons, supporting Islamic terrorists and, in a vicious circle, fighting Islamic terrorists?”


MARGO SARKISOVA
Margo Sarkisovas Arbeit 6769 beschäftigt sich intensiv mit der Erforschung und Bewahrung von Tradition. Durch den Konflikt, der sich aus den dualen nationalen Identitäten in Margos Familie ergibt, hat sie die einzigartige Möglichkeit, tiefgreifende Fragen zur Bewahrung von Tradition und Kultur zu reflektieren. Darüber hinaus werden auch Möglichkeiten der Veränderung und Neuinterpretation von Botschaften, die von Generationen weitergegeben werden, beleuchtet.
